At Ramps on the Moon, our vision is a mainstream cultural sector free of ableism, in which disabled people can develop ambition, gain skills, work, innovate, thrive and flourish, making impact in the cultural landscape of the UK and beyond. To achieve this, we are working with partners to enrich the stories we tell, and the ways we tell them, by elevating the voices of disabled people in mainstream culture.

Training from an experienced disabled trainer can be an important part of your journey to embed anti-ableism in your organisation. These are the sessions which are requested most frequently, but we can design a session or programme of training if you have specific needs. The training (with the exception of the Board Sessions) can be delivered to staff working in any role in your organisation and you may want to think about including sessional or freelance staff, and volunteers as well.

Basics of Disability Equality

This is essential training for all staff in an organisation that is serious about welcoming disabled people. It will give your teams a shared vocabulary, and bring confidence and consistency to your conversations about disability. Ask us for more information about what this training involves. This session can work well with mixed groups or for teams.

Implementing the Social Model – Going Deeper

This workshop is an opportunity for participants to practise implementing the Social Model of Disability with colleagues. Exercises and feedback will enable them to explore approaches to disability equality, and ways to remove barriers, in their specific areas of work. This session can work well with mixed groups or for teams.

Team Based Workshops

These are for teams or departments within your organisation who want an in-depth exploration of ways in which they can build anti-ableism into their work. For example, removing barriers in marketing, recruitment and retention, box-office and front-of-house, or management. This session works well with teams.

Hidden Impairments

We believe that Disability Equality training underpinned by the Social Model of Disability provides what you need to make sure that all disabled people can thrive in your organisation.
We also recognise that many people want to build their confidence in certain areas, and to have practice in making the connections between the Social Model and hidden impairments. Therefore, we can offer training in how the Social Model relates to people who:

  • are neurodivergent
  • are deaf or hard of hearing
  • have mental health issues

We can provide a trainer with appropriate personal experience who will provide insight and offer practical examples to equip participants to make sure colleagues have all they need to do their best work.

Board Sessions

We can run a session with your board to ensure that they are up to speed with the basics of Disability Equality, and that they understand how this work contributes to who you are as an organisation. We can work within the Board’s usual meeting schedule.

Fees
