Shakespeare’s work probably isn’t the first collection of works you would think would be ‘Deaf friendly’ or easy to interpret but with incredible BSL interpreters his works are being brought to life for the Deaf communities outside of London. During the New Wolsey’s Pulse Festival we were delighted to have a sell out show by Spymonkey performing ‘The Complete Deaths’ on Saturday 4th June 2016 which was interpreted by Jeni Draper from Fingersmiths. Spymonkey performed all 74 onstage deaths (and 75 if you count the black ill-flavoured fly in Titus Andronicus). Definitely one to catch during the tour of the show!

A Midsummer Nights Dream, directed by Sir Trevor Nunn, treads the New Wolsey Theatre boards over June and July with another BSL interpreted show… and then we came across this fantastic video article!

School student, Cieran aged just 15, has been studying Macbeth at school and he was so inspired by the text that he filmed himself on a home video on his mobile phone performing an act from the famous play. As a result he has won a competition working with professional theatre actors.
